Emergency charging cable (Schuko) – Level 1
Charging cables are mandatorily supplied with all new EVs sold in the European Union. This cable plugs into a household socket and its charging reaches 2.3 kW. It is a great backup option, however, as a primary charger, you must consider the following drawbacks:
Charging stations for regular use – Level 2
For everyday use, wherever you park
Residential charging
These residential charging stations are usually wall mounted and in the European Union, require dedicated/direct wiring to the mains switchboard (fuse box). The maximum speed is typically 22 kW, up to 10x faster than Level 1 Charging Cables. (see charging type and cost).

Furthermore, Level 2 Charging Stations are Mode 3, meaning that they communicate the charging parameters with the EV, assuring safety and battery optimal battery care.
These charging stations vary depending on the electrical characteristics e.g. number of phases, maximum output, available internal safety devices, and other features, such as, internet connectivity, control via smartphone app, smart grid integration, etc.
Changing at Work
The default solution for charging any electric vehicle is using a Level 2 charging station.
Depending on the parking area layout, the charging station can be installed on a wall either indoors or outdoors, or on the ground on a pedestal.
